Our seventeenth Dalton of the Week encompasses two related models, the SOB I and the SOB II. These models were built between the end of Militia Recon production and the beginning of the SOF 00 production, with the SOB I being made first in early September 2000. I think the term that best characterizes these two models is "big and brawny". Both models have blades that are almost 3/16" thick. The SOB I seems like a folder that you could take out in the woods and chop a tree down with. Both of these models used the new flush type release button that was introduced with the Militia Guardian in July 2000.

The "SOB" part of the name stands for exactly what you think it stands for. What may surprise you is the origin of the name. Mr. Dalton didn't name these. Mrs. Dalton did. I understand that Mrs. Dalton is no longer allowed to name the knives.

Here's a picture of the SOB I with its 2-tone SOG style blade:

The only variations that I recall seeing with this model were 2-tone and beadblast blades. I don't recall seeing any protos. The SOB I came with a pocket clip and there were a total of 140 pieces made. They were serialized on the rear part of the handle.

The dimensions of the SOB I are as follows:

Overall Length: 9 - 1/2"
Blade Length: 4 - 1/16"
Blade Thickness: 0.173"
Handle Thickness: 0.540"

The SOB II production run was directly after the SOB I's in September 2000. They had pocket clips and were serialized on the rear part of the handle. It appears that the vast majority had 2-tone blades. I understand, but have not verified with the Daltons, that only one full beadblast piece was made. That possible "one-of" is now owned by a forum member. I do not recall seeing any Proto marked pieces. Here's a picture of the SOB II with its 2-tone drop point blade. The blades had very slight upper swedges.

The dimensions of the SOB II are as follows:

Overall Length: 9 - 1/4"
Blade Length: 3 - 7/8"
Blade Thickness: 0.172"
Handle Thickness: 0.536"

There were 143 of the SOB II's produced. They had a pocket clip.

Many thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Dalton for providing information on these models. Does anyone out there have any additional information or know about any other variations?
