For some reason I was thinking the Battle Monkey was going to be an OTF.

I thought it was going to be a spring loaded fist you hold 6" away from someone's face and press a button. Oh, wait that's the Monkey Fist which is still under development. devil0 ILK

I too like the wharncliffe blade but I half expected something more out of the entire design. It was quite a wait. It seems a little plain considering the time it took to release. Having said that, I'll still probably get one:D. Is it just me, or does the button seem too small or out of proportion?

I like it. It's different, good size for an EDC, small run of only 20 pcs, so it fits my needs for a new Dalton:):):):)

I don't get the moniker though either...Al

Beefie ???? its nice size from the blade pivot forward then it looks like a kitchen knife handle from the pivot rearward.... it would like chunky closed i`ll give it that, But it really doen`t look like much to hold onto handle wise.

Maybe the handle wasn't designed for a human fist... although it w-o-u-l-d be rather hard to work that small release without an opposable thumb.

I think it looks great, looks small on the page, but at ten inches this looks like its probly quite comfy in the hand, also too the handle looks safe like if it were closing up on you you dont lose any digits...well executed IMO

... small run of only 20 pcs...
Site says first run of 20 pieces.. Does that mean he'll do a second run that will be non-exclusive?

Word from John Kinoff is there will be no second run......
So get em while you can....

Ok, so it looks like the Monkey is getting some bad reviews here so there more than likely will not be a second run. Kinoff was given the exclusive because he used to have a couple of pet monkeys and Dalton designed the knife for him based on this. Just good dealer loyalty here.

Even if the knife is not what you have all fantasized that it would be, keep in mind that we are all collectors to some degree.

Based on this alone, what other knife maker is offering anything like the Monkey? Nobody, this is why I have bought one. With only 20 of this unique style made you had better jump on the opportunity (note that there are only 4 left).

I admittedly wish that a custom like this was numbered and that future offerings will be equally as unique.

I think a good idea that Dalton should consider is to develop a thread in which members can submit some design ideas for a future limited run. Winner would get the No.1 proto at no cost and bragging rights forever.

Who's in? Maybe if we get enough response, we can actually make this happen.

Looks like a real work horse to me. I use the shit out of my knives for yard work and every day things. This looks like it would fit right with my many of needs. Might not be too bad in the kitchen either.~got wood~got wood

It looks like a good design to me. That handle is probably very comfortable for those of us with smaller hands, and it looks like it could accommodate a wider blade.

Would like to see a version with a 2" wide blade. That would be insane folding cleaver from hell.

Well, I spoke to Big John K today. He said the BM looks 10x better in the hand than it does in the pics. Sometimes the pics just don't do the knife justice.

Mine will be here shortly, with a satin blade. 1 of 20, how could you go wrong on a small run like that. Read e'm and weep if you missed out on this one...Al

Got mine yesterday and was impressed! Its quite a handful and its one of those knives you just have to hold to appreciate it. I might just buy another if there are any left.

Got mine today and could'nt be more please. It's a massive knife in the hand and the only thing that would have been better would be a larger button. Great knife overall.sharp0

This knife is a handful. I am quite pleased with it. I can't recall another auto made similarly. Rob's trademark, unique design tough as nails construction. And with only 20 pieces made, a year from now, the BM will be harder to find than a hound's tooth.

It wasn't too long ago that I and many other Dalton collectors were longing for a return to "short run" unique design pieces. I only hope Rob keeps it up.

Now, if he put serial #'s on them that would seal the deal for good...Al
